TECH NEWS – Incredibly, some viewers are so upset with the quality of Netflix that a class action lawsuit is being filed against the streaming company!
The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match was the beginning of live streaming of sporting events. Netflix wants to make this available to millions of users, but there is a downside. Specifically, the image quality of the stream was not up to par. TMZ has reported that many people have simply sued Netflix because online viewers didn’t get the same experience as those who watched the boxing match live!
On Friday night, many people complained that they couldn’t watch the fight in good quality because there was a lot of buffering at the exact time when most people were glued to their screens (or umbrellas). That’s why Ronald “Blue” Denton filed a lawsuit against Netflix on Monday, saying his viewing experience was “plagued by legendary problems, including no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues.” Netflix is also in breach of contract and is seeking unspecified damages.
Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s chief technology officer, admitted that they have room for improvement, but she said the boxing match was a huge success for them. About 60 million people watched the fight. She told Men’s Journal that stability is a priority for them, but that they won’t ignore poor quality, and that Neflix will take action because of it… but it’s a little funny that Stone didn’t say a word about the class action suit!
“This unprecedented scale presented many technical challenges, which the launch team handled brilliantly by prioritizing the stability of the stream for the majority of viewers. I’m sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues. We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience some members had, and we know we have room for improvement, but we still consider this event a huge success,” said Stone.
