PlayStation 5 Pro: One Game Won’t Receive a Patch Anytime Soon!

We’ve reported on many occasions that a game will support the more powerful PlayStation 5, but now we’re reporting the opposite.

CD Projekt RED (CDPR) has announced on Twitter that they have no plans to support the PlayStation 5 Pro for Cyberpunk 2077. This is a somewhat disappointing announcement, as the Night City first-person adventure has come a long way in the almost four years since its release, although the Polish studio has now left PlayStation 4 and Xbox One behind, as Cyberpunk 2077’s only add-on, Phantom Liberty, was not made available for the previous generation of consoles.

This could be a good thing for CDPR, though. We recently reported that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (Respawn Entertainment is already working on a sequel) and Silent Hill 2 Remake are not perfect, as the visual quality may not be as strong. In the case of CDPR, it is somewhat understandable why they do not want to support the PlayStation 5 Pro: the Poles have left behind their proprietary technology, REDengine, and so both Polaris (the code name for the new trilogy of The Witcher) and Orion (the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077) will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.

And because of this, it’s possible that CDPR may not end up supporting the PlayStation 5 Pro in Cyberpunk 2077 at all, or if they do, they may not rush to do so because the focus has shifted to the development of Polaris, and therefore there may not be enough manpower to go back to the old engine and update it one last time to support the console that was released two weeks ago.

With the PlayStation 5 Pro, you’ll get higher frame rates, higher resolution and better image quality, but even without the console-specific patch, you’ll generally get 10-15% better performance based on what we’ve seen so far.
