The creators of STALKER 2 have achieved massive success on Steam, but there’s even better news ahead. Updates are on the way to refine the post-apocalyptic shooter. GSC Game World’s latest title, available on Game Pass, has surpassed 100,000 concurrent players on Steam.
It’s been years since STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl was first announced, and the post-apocalyptic shooter has already impressed audiences with its initial reception. After countless delays and challenges brought on by the Ukraine-Russia war, players can finally dive into the open-world survival FPS. While the wait was long, early player feedback shows promise, and the game’s future looks even brighter.
Let’s start with the numbers. According to SteamDB, GSC Game World’s shooter has achieved the success it desperately needed. Within just a few hours of launch, the game amassed over 113,000 concurrent players on Steam—a figure made even more remarkable considering the game is also available on Game Pass.
If you’ve noticed STALKER 2 leading the Steam sales charts in recent days, the over 110,000 concurrent players shouldn’t come as a surprise. As for user reviews, the game is currently rated as “Mostly Positive” on Steam, which should give the developers reason to celebrate. Before the major launch patch, STALKER 2 suffered from optimization hiccups, visual bugs, and several technical issues flagged by players, though many of these problems have already been addressed.
There’s still work to be done, but GSC Game World has plans. In a recent statement, the developers announced their commitment to rolling out numerous small patches in the coming days. “STALKER 2 is a massive project. We understand that with a game of this scale, there are bound to be details that need fine-tuning. We’ve never released something of this size before. Rest assured, we are here, listening to your feedback, and quickly addressing any issues requiring attention,” the developers stated.
“For the first few days post-launch, we’ll focus on quick updates, releasing them accurately and frequently. After that, we’ll move to larger updates aimed at constant improvement. Free in-game content is also planned, and we’ll share the roadmap in December. We have big plans for the STALKER 2 universe. Today marks both a return and the beginning of an exciting new journey,” they concluded.
