Starward Industries (they previously developed The Invincible) is taking a cautious approach, as it will only be released in early access.
Dante’s Ring is an anti-combat action-adventure RPG with survival and arcade elements that pits you against the deadliest forces of nature, from raging fires and molten lava to powerful earthquakes. Assume the role of one of the intrepid explorers investigating a seemingly extinct volcanic mountain range. Strive to survive and save as many lives as possible while facing the forces of nature, the aftermath of a natural disaster, deep-seated human beliefs, social conflicts, and your own inner demons. Will you be able to uncover the secrets that lie beneath the Ring of Fire?
The game focuses on rescue and survival, using retro equipment in a race against nature’s wrath amidst mystical beliefs. Will you battle a raging fire or flee a pyroclastic flow? Will you break down a door to rescue someone or stop and administer first aid? Once the volcano’s hot breath reaches you, every second counts. Dante’s Ring offers a fresh approach to gameplay that focuses on avoiding combat and immersing you in a mesmerizing, eerie world where you must pass through the gates of hell to save just one more life from its grasp.
Unravel the mystery hidden within the Ring of Fire. Face the untamed fury of fire with an array of retro-inspired gear. Traverse the terrain on foot or with retro inventions. Solve intricate puzzles, break through obstacles, and carefully manage your supplies. Find your own way to rescue people and animals. Prepare for missions in the Hub by selecting equipment for your preferred play styles/classes. Complete quests and missions with outcomes that can affect the course of the story. Scavenge for resources using retro tools on an island covered in a thick layer of ash. Navigate complex moral choices and broker an uneasy peace among the various factions all vying for survival. Someone out there is still waiting for your help.
Dante’s Ring will first be released in early access on PC on Steam sometime next year. No word on console versions.
