Kraven the Hunter: Director Pleads with the Audience; Aaron Taylor-Johnson Refers to James Bond?!

MOVIE NEWS – Kraven the Hunter director makes a plea to fans as he addresses Sony’s Spider-Man Universe issues…

While Spider-Man has consistently packed theatres, Sony’s efforts to further build a world around the villains of the Spider-Man universe have mostly been a complete disappointment. While some fans look back on Sony’s Andrew Garfield-starring Spider-Man movies with newfound respect, Sony’s recent live-action Spider-Man universe films have been weak, to say the least. With the next instalment in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, Kraven the Hunter, on the horizon, J.C. Director Chandor is asking fans to put aside the bad taste left by Madame Web, Morbius, and, to a lesser extent, Venom 3 in order to give his film a chance at the box office.

In an interview with ComicBook, Chandor was candid about how he wants fans to forget Sony’s past missteps. That way, they can look at his film about the legendary trophy hunter played by Aaron Taylor Johnson with an unbiased eye. Chandor really wants audiences to enjoy the film, and in doing so, he hopes to finally break Sony’s box office curse on Spider-Man movies, which has only recently been broken by the animated Spider-Verse films.

“People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened.”

“Give our film a chance.”

“And I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see when the movie’s over, there’s potential for a lot of things to happen. But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell a good damn story. And then we’ll have opportunities to do a lot of fun things.”

Well, the ball is in your court, Chandor. Less cynical Spider-Man fans are hoping for a Kraven the Hunter movie that’s worth their time and money. But it’s going to take a lot more than begging to get scorned fans excited about Sony’s film about one of the web-slinger’s most fearsome villains. We can overlook the recent stumbles, but with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies still in our hearts, it’s going to be hard to watch Kraven the Hunter with an open mind.

Would Kraven the Hunter be like James Bond?!

Titular character Aaron Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to comic book movies, having previously played Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor’s blockbuster presence has been in countless has resulted in a fan-favorite cast, one of which has remained consistent over the years: James Bond. The iconic 007 film franchise recently saw the end of the career of Daniel Craig’s version of the spy. With Craig’s time as Bond officially over, rumours and speculation about who could play the next 007 have been rife, with Taylor-Johnson’s name being brought up several times.

In an interview with ComicBook, Taylor-Johnson was asked if the role of James Bond was in the actor’s plans. Rather than answering directly, the actor likened his upcoming comic book film to a Bond adventure:

“I think, you know, if that’s the thing you’re really into [Bond] and that’s the kind of movie you love, then you should come see this movie [Kraven the Hunter] because the action in this is insane and super exciting. So, yeah, honestly, I don’t think it would disappoint.”

Don’t worry, take it seriously! The actor’s response to his approach to the role is interesting in itself. The new Spider-Man villain’s film promises to be notoriously brutal. It’s true that action plays a big part in James Bond films, but let’s be honest: 007 rarely rips off limbs in a wild frenzy…

It’s still unclear what direction the team behind the next 007 film plans to take with the character. A recent casting update gave fans a glimpse into what to expect, and there are plenty of options and talent to take on the role. For now, fans will have to wait until Kraven the Hunter, which will hopefully be a worthy sequel.
