Elon Musk’s Surprising Move: Entering the Gaming Industry Despite Past Statements!

Musk’s thinking is a bit incomprehensible (especially since he’ll be in a government role starting in January), but let’s summarize what’s happening!

The owner of Twitter has stopped his tweets full of racism, transphobia and conspiracy theories to announce that games have become too woke because the gaming industry is dominated by big corporations and therefore he will create a new AI game studio “to make games great again”. Where is the contradiction? That Musk also has a gigantic company… after all, he owns Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk’s idea came in response to a comment from Billy Markus, the co-founder of Dogecoin. Markus doesn’t understand how game developers and journalists have become such ideological prisoners, especially in light of the fact that he says gamers have always rejected stupid manipulative nonsense and can tell when someone is an outsider poser. Musk even wrote in another tweet after announcing his expansion into the gaming industry that “couldn’t we just make good games without the awakened lessons?

The trouble starts when a giant company tries to save the games from the bigger companies. They call xAI a startup, but the company has at least (!) 100,000 Nvidia GPUs, which means it is a multi-billion dollar company. The idea of an AI game studio is completely new and as unthinkable as colonizing Mars (Musk wants to do that too). Still, many have responded to Musk’s tweet, and at least one game designer, Derek Smart, is already having second thoughts. He asks how xAI won’t be in the hands of a larger company?

Looking at the past, Musk may eventually get around to it, just as he did with the Twitter acquisition after a bit of persuasion. Amazon and Google have a history of failing in the gaming industry. Money is not enough for successful game development!

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
