It’s a bit puzzling why there’s so much secrecy about when the remaster of John Carpenter’s classic sci-fi horror movie-based game will be released…
Nightdive Studios announced in June that they would be remastering 2002’s The Thing, but in the case of the survival horror title, they simply wouldn’t say WHEN it would be released. But that didn’t bother Microsoft: on the Xbox Wire, they listed the titles that Xbox fans can expect to see in the first week of December, and poof, there’s The Thing: Remastered. And here’s the kicker: we’re less than a week away from release. Is anyone that reluctant to promote the game?!
The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the 2002 cult classic third-person survival horror shooter game inspired by Universal Pictures and filmmaker John Carpenter’s genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing. Nightdive Studios has updated this chilling classic for the modern era using its proprietary KEX engine for play on current generation consoles at up to 4K resolution at 120fps. Enhancements to character models, textures, and animations have been hand-crafted by Nightdive Studios, with the implementation of advanced 3D rendering for updated lighting and atmospheric effects, resulting in a thrilling and gruesomely detailed remaster that reanimates the thrilling game for modern audiences.
In the frozen Arctic tundra, a mysterious shape-shifting alien has wiped out the crew of the U.S. research facility Outpost #31. In The Thing: Remastered, players step into the boots of Captain J.F. Blake, leader of a United States Army Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the bloody events of the original The Thing. Trapped by the elements and in danger of being infected by a horrific entity, Blake must keep his squad together to survive by gaining their trust and ensuring that their fear and paranoia don’t get the best of them… or himself.
Continue the story of The Thing as you face off against terrifying monsters, from crawling head spiders and human-like walkers to giant multi-tentacled level bosses. Command a squad of up to four NPCs from the Soldier, Medic, and Engineer character classes through the game’s 11 terrifying levels. Someone in your squad may not be who they appear to be. The shape-shifting alien is hiding inside an impersonator, so keep a watchful eye. Gain the trust of your squad members and keep their fear levels to a minimum, lest they become defiant or worse, succumb to paranoia. The remaster features improved models, textures and animations hand-crafted by Nightdive, as well as enhanced lighting and atmospheric effects. Up to 4K 120 frames per second visuals on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Trophies and Achievements on Windows PC via Steam, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
The Thing: Remastered will be released on December 5th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
