TECH NEWS – The development of apps for Apple Vision Pro remains sluggish, as a recent survey reveals only 3% of developers are creating new programs for the platform.
The success of any operating system depends on its extensive app library, but it appears that Apple Vision Pro, which launched earlier this year, still has a long way to go. Developers’ lack of enthusiasm for visionOS is a major hurdle, as only 3% of them are actively creating new apps for the platform. This statistic highlights a significant challenge, suggesting that many developers do not view the system as worth their time and effort.
According to Setapp’s annual developer survey, 35% of developers have no plans to make applications for the Apple Vision Pro, while 50% remain uncertain. With fewer than 500,000 units shipped this year, it’s unsurprising that developers are hesitant to invest in the expensive headset.
Instead, many developers are prioritizing AI, with 60% indicating that they are working on artificial intelligence features or have already implemented them. The Apple Vision Pro’s inability to generate momentum among both consumers and developers seems to be a major factor behind Apple’s reported decision to halt production by the end of 2024.
CEO Tim Cook has previously defended the Vision Pro’s performance, branding it as a device for those eager to experience tomorrow’s technology today. However, he omitted the hefty $3,499 price tag that remains a major deterrent. The lack of developer interest also appears to be a key reason behind delays in launching a more affordable Vision Pro model, now postponed until after 2027.
The official release of visionOS 2.2 introduced productivity-focused features like ultrawide support, hinting at the potential for improvement. However, the Apple Vision Pro requires even more compelling additions to win over developers. Hopefully, its adoption will improve in the coming months.
