Remedy Entertainment’s game wasn’t in the best shape when it came to supporting Sony’s half-generation console update, but the Finnish studio has insisted on fixing that.
The new patch for Alan Wake 2 brings the game up to version number 1.27, and it’s mainly aimed at improving support for the PlayStation 5 Pro. The console was released over a month ago, and at the time Digital Foundry claimed that PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s upscaler, worked well in most games, but not here. (We’ve written about the reason before: low native resolution didn’t help much…)
A few days later, Remedy wrote that they’d need a few more weeks to get Alan Wake 2 in better shape on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Well, this patch was released recently. A balanced graphics mode has been added for the PlayStation 5 Pro. This requires a compatible display that can achieve a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It combines the settings of the PlayStation 5 Pro Quality mode, including ray tracing, with the resolution of the Performance mode. This mode targets a frame rate of 40 fps.
The visual settings for Performance Mode have been slightly adjusted to achieve a more consistent frame rate. The ray tracing settings in the Balanced and Quality graphics modes have also been adjusted to reduce image noise. There is also an option to toggle PSSR on/off. The Xbox Series and PC versions of the game also received patch 1.27. In The Lake House DLC, the manuscript collectibles that showed the wrong page in Saga’s Mind Place have been fixed. This patch also fixes the missing audio in the Welcome to the Lake House video collection. Minor fixes and tweaks were also made.
Alan Wake 2 was released on October 27th last year and has since received two DLCs (Night Springs, The Lake House). We’ve also written about where it stands in terms of sales, and it still hasn’t brought Remedy any royalties…
