Nintendo Switch 2: Will Sony and Microsoft Join the Competition?

The Japanese company’s next-generation hardware is predicted to be a big seller when it finally arrives…

DFC Intelligence is a long-established research and consulting firm dedicated exclusively to the gaming industry. They predict that Nintendo’s new hardware will sell 15-17 million units by 2025 and more than 80 million units by 2028. This will strengthen the Japanese company’s position as the market leader, while Sony and Microsoft will not be able to gain significant market share with their own hardware, and this will not be improved by the PlayStation 6 or the next-generation Xbox when it is released.

The gaming industry will grow, with revenues increasing from $72 billion this year to $83 billion in 2028. By then, it will total $330 billion, including sales of PC and console hardware and mobile games. The size of the audience will also grow significantly, with the world’s population expected to become gamers by 2027. The frontrunner for growth will therefore be the Nintendo Switch 2, with Sony and Microsoft fighting for second place in later years, and the middle of the podium going to whoever has the better early momentum.

According to Christopher Dring, editor-in-chief of Gamesindustry, it’s possible that Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 at the beginning of the new year, but he says that this is just a rumor. Then NintenTalk wrote on Twitter that he’d heard from a major external developer about the January unveiling. We’re also hearing that the Japanese company will unveil the new hardware before the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on January 16. The big N has only officially said that the new console will be announced by the end of March, the end of the fiscal year.

The name Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t official either, but that’s basically what everyone is calling it now.
