Falcom (which is currently mourning the recent death of its founder…) is giving the latest installment of the franchise a facelift, but it is only confirmed for Japan at the moment…
Ys X: Proud Nordics will be released in Japan in 2025 as a significantly improved version of the action RPG Ys X: Nordics, featuring a new story, new adventure locations, and numerous new elements. Aland Island is a massive island located north of the Gulf of Obelia. In the midst of battling the immortal creatures known as Griegr, the red-haired adventurer Adol and the pirate princess Karja visit the island and encounter countless ruins in its unexplored lands.
What happened on this island? An encounter with another Mana user leads Adol and his companions into an unknown adventure… In addition to the exhilarating offensive and defensive cross-actions between Adol and Karja, Ys X: Proud Nordics introduces new mana actions and a huge map of Aland Island and exploration areas! There is also a wealth of additional content, including new bosses, Mana Ride races, and arena battles where formidable foes await.
Ys X: Nordics is still a relatively new game, as it was released in Japan on September 28, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. The PC port came out on March 14th of this year. Yes, but it had to wait until October 25th for localization and thus a western release, and then it was released on all platforms (PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4). So it’s been less than a year and a half since the game was released, but it’s already getting an expansion?
Yes, X: Proud Nordics will be released in Japan sometime in 2025, and if this version follows the pattern of the base game, the western release will be in 2026. No word yet on what the target platforms will be, but we’re guessing it will be the successor to PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch, with the Switch 2 due out next year (and rumored to be unveiled in January).
