Amy Hennig, renowned for her work on Uncharted, unveils breathtaking concept art and intriguing details about her upcoming Marvel game. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra promises an epic adventure featuring Captain America and Black Panther, set to release in 2025.
The highly anticipated Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was first introduced at the GDC Unreal Engine showcase in March. Starring Drew Moerlein as Captain America and Khary Payton as Black Panther, the game is set in World War II and offers players a fresh take on these iconic heroes.
“This project gave us the chance to explore unique storytelling possibilities,” Amy Hennig shared with Entertainment Weekly. “We wanted to portray a younger Steve Rogers, still finding his footing, rather than the seasoned hero seen in most films. At the same time, we could introduce a brand-new Black Panther specific to 1943.”
Skydance Games, led by Hennig herself, is behind the game’s development. Hennig, who directed the first three Uncharted titles, emphasized the joy of working on a World War II-era story.
“It allowed us to embrace all the elements I love—classic adventure tropes from wartime films, thrilling men-on-a-mission dynamics, and an array of intriguing characters and locations,” Hennig continued. “The narrative is filled with twists, suspense, and surprises, ensuring a compelling journey for players.”
The newly revealed concept art showcases the lush and mysterious jungles of Wakanda, one of the game’s central locations.
Exploring Wakanda in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
“In 1943, Wakanda is a secluded and fiercely protected nation, hidden by an impenetrable jungle,” Hennig explained. “While they prefer to remain uninvolved in global affairs, circumstances arise that force them to act. They need to defend their interests as the world becomes more interconnected. Satellites don’t exist yet, but they’re not far off. You can shoot down planes attempting to fly over Wakanda, but how long can a nation stay hidden in the shadows?”
With its gripping premise and Hennig’s signature storytelling, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most exciting releases.
