OneXPlayer G1: Switching Seamlessly Between Laptop and Handheld PC? [VIDEO]

STEAM DECK NEWS – One-Netbook has announced something a bit unusual, because although it’s as compact as the Steam Deck, it has a laptop-like element…

The OneXPlayer G1 is an unusual handheld that’s already part of the second generation of handheld PCs. Its innovation is that it has a detachable keyboard. It’s closer to a laptop than, say, the Asus ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go. The new OneXPlayer promises a sleek, compact design with integrated controls and a detachable keyboard for even more versatility.

It features the same AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU as the OneXFly F1 Pro handheld PC we’ve shown you. Only that one doesn’t have a keyboard, while this one does, making it more of a hybrid laptop/handheld PC design. Indiegogo gives more information about the device, which looks a lot like GPD’s hardware (GPD Win Max 2, but with a smaller screen), but the OneXPlayer G1’s keyboard is detachable, so you can “seamlessly switch between laptop, console, and tablet modes for any task.”

Once the keyboard (and trackpad) is pulled down, you have access to a control layout as well as a smaller touchscreen keyboard with the same split layout as the GPD below. This is exactly the kind of experimentation we’d like to see in handheld PCs, since many people have already mastered the basics. Besides, new form factors are always fun. We’ve seen similar experimentation with Acer’s Project DualPlay concept. Except this is more clearly a laptop… just a pop-out gamepad with a trackpad on the bottom. And we’ve seen dual-screen innovation in the form of the Ayaneo Flip DS.

The concept of the OneXPlayer G1 isn’t bad, but considering it’s powered by AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, it’s going to be as expensive as the OneXFly F1. And that’s a pretty expensive machine…
