A recent update to Red Dead Online has removed a key feature, further fueling fan frustration with Rockstar’s perceived neglect of the acclaimed western.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely considered a masterpiece, which makes Rockstar’s seeming abandonment of the title all the more disheartening. While Red Dead Online receives occasional updates with new content, the single-player portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 has been largely ignored. Now, in a move that suggests Rockstar is distancing itself even further from its critically acclaimed western, a new update has quietly removed a core feature from Red Dead Online.
Player-Created Content Removed from Red Dead Online Social Feed
Rockstar Games has disabled the ability to view certain types of content within Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Red Dead Online mode. Despite a long period without significant content additions, Rockstar continues to perform basic maintenance and implement changes to community management.
Initially noticed by community member PLTytus, Rockstar subsequently published an article on their support website detailing the removals. As of December 12th, 2024, various forms of player-generated content will no longer be accessible on the Red Dead Online Social Feed. Below is a comprehensive list of the content impacted by this change:
End of Support for User-Generated Content in Red Dead Online Social Feed Effective December 12, 2024, user-generated content will no longer be featured on the Red Dead Online Social Feed. This includes:
- Posts related to user-generated content
- Friend activity
- Crew activity
- Story Mode accomplishments, challenges, and milestones
- Online accomplishments, challenges, and milestones
- Post and wall interactions
Players will retain access to Rockstar Games posts and notifications.
The rationale behind this alteration remains unclear. This change will undoubtedly concern dedicated Red Dead Online players. Hopefully, this is due to technical reasons or low usage, and not an indication of Rockstar’s future plans for Red Dead Online. The game, particularly Red Dead Redemption 2, consistently ranks among the most downloaded PS4 titles each month.
