TECH NEWS – Apple’s iPhone 17 Air could be joined by another similarly slim device next year, so we’ll see some surprisingly slim phones again.

Samsung Galaxy’s new S25 series is due to arrive early this year, and rumors have it that a new model will join them. This will compete with Apple’s iPhone 17 Air and is expected to be the Galaxy S25 Slim. The South Korean company is trying to create a surprisingly slim smartphone using the best possible components. A leaker, Ice Universe, has estimated on Weibo (the Chinese equivalent of Twitter) how many millimeters thick the new device will be.

According to Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will be 6.x mm thick. He didn’t give an exact number, so it will be six millimeters. This would be a huge leap compared to this year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as the South Korean phone is 8.6 millimeters thick and Apple’s is 8.3 mm. If the Galaxy S25 Slim is 6.9mm, that could mean a 20% thinner phone next year. (We’ve written that Apple last used this thinness in its devices in 2014, but a lot has improved since then, and it’s mainly the cameras that have put a bump on the back of the phones.)

If the Galaxy S25 Slim is really that thin, it could even have performance problems if it uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Maybe there will be a few large-area chambers to dissipate the hot air, but it’s worth remembering that Samsung will have to compromise somewhere. Either in terms of performance or cameras (the latter of which Apple will certainly simplify).

After that, it will only be interesting to see what kind of pricing Samsung will apply to the Galaxy S25 Slim. The iPhone 17 Pro will be close to the level of the iPhone 17 Pro Air…
