Astro Bot: Sony Marks 30 Years of PlayStation with a Grand Celebration! [VIDEO]

Team Asobi’s game has been a huge success in three months, and Sony has also had a great way to end 2024.

The platformer, which is currently only available on PlayStation 5, has been doing quite well since September. It also won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, making the little robot essentially Sony’s new mascot. The 3D platformer has beaten several recent releases in the gaming industry, proving that a game doesn’t have to be a live service model to win over the public, as evidenced by the fact that Team Asobi’s masterpiece has already sold over one and a half million units as of November 3.

The spectacle of the sphere in Las Vegas was used by Sony. The giant sphere was rented by Sony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. In a one and a half minute commercial, Astro Bot dances amidst the PlayStation iconography, and at the end, the sphere looks exactly like Astro Bot’s helmet and eyes, even winking at the audience before going black. Both the visuals and the concept are fantastic.

Sony didn’t spare the money, because Las Vegas is not a cheap entertainment by default, but in vain, the company admitted that Astro Bot has become mainstream, and since the company is known to want to do blockbuster IPs (which is why Days Gone didn’t get a sequel), Sony wouldn’t do something like this if they didn’t treat this IP as important. Sony also celebrated PlayStation’s 30th anniversary in other ways, starting with the PS1-style PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, DualSense and DualSense Edge, and PlayStation Portal in September, and then on December 3, the brand’s 30th birthday, we got to see a video of PlayStation’s most popular franchises as Sony thanked us for our support.

But when something is successful, it deserves attention.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
