MOVIE NEWS – Denzel Washington has added yet another achievement to his impressive career. The Gladiator II actor recently took a significant spiritual step by getting baptized and obtaining a minister’s license. This ceremony, held at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem, New York City, was shared by First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Eastern New York through a Facebook live stream.
During the service, the celebrated actor expressed his gratitude, saying, “In one week I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here.” Washington also acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, Pauletta Washington.
Known for his openness about faith, Washington discussed his spiritual journey in a recent Esquire essay. He highlighted the challenges of openly discussing religion in Hollywood but emphasized his commitment to staying true to his beliefs. “I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks,” he wrote. “Talking about fear—you can’t say these things and expect to win Oscars. You can’t party or fit in with that mindset. But that doesn’t change my resolve.”
He also touched on Hollywood’s relationship with religion: “There’s no such thing as Hollywood anyway. It’s just a place. We don’t gather as actors to talk about faith. There’s no meeting of believers in this industry.”
Looking ahead, Washington has several projects lined up. He is set to star in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest for Apple Original Films/A24 alongside A$AP Rocky and Ice Spice. Additionally, he is rumored to appear in Black Panther 3, a detail he recently let slip.
