TECH NEWS – It seems that both companies are keen to get their next generation graphics cards in the bag as soon as possible, with the most expensive of which we’ve heard a potential price that leaves us in shock.
The bottom line is that both Nvidia and AMD are trying to get their next generation GPUs out of China and into US warehouses before Donald Trump is inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20th. Both companies have essentially been forced into a desperate move, as if they miss the January 20 deadline, the price of graphics cards would increase significantly due to the tariffs imposed by Trump (up to 40%…).
Ctee wrote that now the AIB manufacturers (Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) are all ramping up the production of next-generation video cards, which is unusual since the initial supply is usually limited. Since both AMD and Nvidia have strict rules to keep information out of the supply chain, both companies probably started ramping up GPU production in early December to keep the cards in US warehouses for a while, so they can make more profit and the tariffs will be paid by consumers…
Trump’s tariff proposal includes a 10% tariff on imports from outside China and a 60% tariff on imports from China. Since most gaming GPUs come from China, prices could rise by as much as 40% (if not more: manufacturers have decided to pass the tariff on to consumer prices…). Microsoft, Dell and HP have taken similar measures, speeding up the manufacturing process to fight Trump’s policies.
Although we don’t know the prices, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 could be priced at $1800, but with the tariff this could jump to $2500. This would only boost the market for used GPUs, because they certainly won’t throw such a tariff at them.
