TECH NEWS – Mark Zuckerberg’s year-end celebration has been spoiled, to say the least, because it’s not just one product that’s affected, it’s many!
Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S are all affected by the problem, which is caused by a new update. The issue also affects those who have just purchased one, not just those who have had the headset for a long time. Meta frequently releases updates for its devices to fine-tune the experience, add new features, and fix bugs. Updates are usually released in waves to users who have continued to use the devices without problems… but that’s not the case this time!
As a Christmas present, Meta Quest users first reported on December 25 that their headsets were not working properly after the update. “Your device is corrupted. It cannot be trusted”, i.e. they mistakenly think their devices are hacked when they just installed the Zucks update! There was no modding involved, because then there wouldn’t be so many users complaining rightfully!
⚠️ QUEST UPDATE POSSIBLY BRICKING HEADSETS ⚠️

Meta has responded to this on their forum. The company has acknowledged the error and is investigating why this is happening. However, some users are worried about what will happen to their already broken headsets, which are no longer under warranty. It is not yet known how Meta will release the patch(es). In the meantime, it is recommended that you DO NOT reset your Meta Quest headset to factory defaults, as some people have tried this and their headset did not turn on.
Meta recommends booting the headset with the error message by pressing and holding the power button for 45 seconds (isn’t that a bit excessive?). According to some users, Meta may have stopped distributing the update that caused the bug because the stable update that precedes it is the one that headsets get.
This is embarrassing.
