NieR Series: Is a New Game on the Horizon?

“2025 will be a turning point.” The producer of the NieR series teases fans with hints of a new game in development.

The NieR series has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide with its emotional storytelling, unforgettable characters, and touching soundtrack. From its debut in 2010 with NieR to the critical success of NieR: Automata in 2017, Yoko Taro’s franchise has gathered millions of devoted fans eagerly awaiting its future. If you’re one of them, there’s exciting news regarding the next installment.

Yosuke Saito, the series producer, shared some insights with fans in an interview on 4Gamer.net, following a conversation featuring several Japanese game developers. The Square Enix creative hinted that 2025 will bring significant news about the series’ next title as it marks 15 years since its inception. “2025 will be a key year as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, so I’d like to do something special for it!” he revealed.

“What could we do…? Maybe something about the upcoming game or related announcements… I’ve been listening to the fans’ expectations. It’s a bit complicated, really… That said, since I’ll likely have a less direct role as a producer, I ask for your patience as we wait for what’s next,” he added (via Gematsu). Last year, Yoko Taro himself joked about a potential new NieR game, so we’ll have to wait until 2025 for further updates.
