Nintendo Switch 2: Evaluating the Credibility of Recent Leaks

A possible release date for the Japanese company’s next-generation platform has been leaked, but its credibility is questionable.

We reported on the Nintendo Switch 2 (that’s not the official name yet) leaks earlier this week. NextHandheld is the name of the leaker, and he started leaking Switch 2 information in mid-December, giving us a look at the Japanese company’s new dock and Joy-Con. Of course, one could question the use of artificial intelligence, but it is understandable that such a “distortion” is used to protect his identity, location, and workplace.

Over on Reddit, RealDoodleDoop did a deeper analysis of NextHandheld’s leaks and concluded that the Nintendo Switch 2 images look pretty authentic. While he has seen image manipulation (altered backgrounds), he says the hardware itself has not been distorted in this way, and they were not generated by generative (content-creating) artificial intelligence. Perhaps the hand holding the device was also AI-generated, as a wristwatch was once seen on a sleeve, which is stylistically highly unusual. However, many of the smaller details were correct, such as the use of three-winged screws. This is a rarity that is rarely seen on mass-produced products, but is a recurring feature on other Nintendo platforms. For example, the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U before it used them.

The u/NextHandheld leaks are real, and here is a definitive and corrected look of the actual system.

According to RealDoodleDoop, the recently leaked Nintendo Switch 2 dimensions are mostly the same as those seen in NextHandheld’s images, and he checked this in Photoshop. The image of the dock can be considered a bit blurry, but it seems to have all the official certification labels you would expect on a modern consumer electronics device.

Meanwhile, an Italian website, Uagna, which doesn’t look very reliable, is claiming that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on March 28th. They claim this based on an anonymous source that they call very reliable, but the credibility of this is something like “trust me, bro” (i.e. no credibility). All that is official is that the Japanese company will unveil the platform by March 31st. The release, however, is not.
