Remedy Expands the Connected Universe: What’s Next for the Alan Wake Franchise?

The creators of Alan Wake 2 are continuing their ambitious journey to expand Remedy’s Connected Universe. According to Sam Lake, Remedy’s creative director, “it’s far too soon to even think about an end” for this interconnected storytelling universe.

You might not yet be familiar with Remedy’s Connected Universe, an ambitious project designed to intertwine the worlds of the developer’s most iconic games. Both Alan Wake 2 and Control have captivated fans with their intricate narratives and enigmatic settings. These connections go beyond mere Easter eggs, creating an immersive experience that’s only set to grow.

In a recent interview with IGN, Sam Lake reflected on the origins of this concept, which began with the release of Alan Wake in 2010. Lake emphasized that the journey has only just begun. “It’s far too early to start talking about an ending,” he remarked. “I love creating connections between these stories and expanding the lore behind them.”

“This project gives us the chance to revisit elements we’ve previously introduced, explore fresh ideas, and push the boundaries of our storytelling. It’s an incredibly exciting endeavor. While each game is designed to stand on its own, we also aim to reward longtime fans with hidden gems that enrich the ongoing story of the Connected Universe,” he added, according to Gamesradar.

What’s Next from Remedy?

The Finnish developer’s upcoming projects linked to the Connected Universe include FBC: Firebreak, their first multiplayer game, slated for a 2025 release. The game will launch on both Game Pass and PS Plus. This title is a Control spin-off, though its direct sequel, Control 2, will shift towards being an action RPG, potentially hitting shelves within a few years.

Additionally, Remedy is working on Max Payne remakes, funded by Rockstar, which could be released as early as 2026 or 2027. Finally, the studio is committed to developing more Alan Wake games, ensuring fans won’t face another decade-long wait between installments. Following the release of the Lake House expansion, the Control, and Alan Wake franchises are also poised to expand into other media, including films and TV series.
