Meta: Zuckerberg Aims to Revamp Social Networks with AI

TECH NEWS – Meta bets on artificial intelligence to rejuvenate its platforms, but the growing presence of bots is raising eyebrows among users. Mark Zuckerberg’s firm defends its use of generative AI in social media.

When it comes to artificial intelligence, experts often highlight two dominant players: OpenAI, with the advantages of ChatGPT, and Google, with its aggressive strategies to dominate the market. Nevertheless, other significant players like NVIDIA and Microsoft have made their mark in the field. Meta, however, has lagged behind in securing a similar level of recognition.

This doesn’t mean that Meta, under Mark Zuckerberg’s leadership, isn’t trying to leverage AI technology. As TechSpot reports, the company’s latest approach is somewhat controversial: it plans to populate its social media platforms with AI-generated bots. These profiles will feature fake biographies and share AI-generated content, with the goal of boosting interaction. Meta’s strategy also involves using these bots to engage with humans and capture the attention of younger audiences.

Thousands of AI Personas Already Active in the U.S.

Meta is developing tools that enable users to create personalized AI bots capable of mimicking personalities and interacting with other users. These tools are already responsible for the thousands of AI-generated personas created in the U.S. This initiative, along with the integration of generative AI into platforms like Facebook and Instagram, aligns with the vision of Connor Hayes, Meta’s Vice President of Generative Products: “Artificial intelligence is the absolute priority.”

Currently, most of the AI characters created remain private, indicating that many creators feel the tool isn’t yet mature. Critics, meanwhile, have voiced concerns about the risks of interacting with AI-generated content, warning that it could amplify false narratives without adequate safeguards. Notably, Meta isn’t alone in adopting this approach; both TikTok and Snapchat are also incorporating generative AI into their platforms.
