The only problem with them was that they weren’t exactly trying to play on Windows 10 or Windows 11, and NetEase may have been too aggressive about it.
The community manager for Marvel Rivals announced on Discord that due to an accident, many innocent players were also flagged as cheaters and banned. Why? Because they were using a different operating system. And that doesn’t automatically mean they were trying to cheat. They were just using support layers. An example of this is Proton, which is used by Steam Deck (which runs Linux-based SteamOS, not Windows).
“Recently, we’ve received feedback from players about an issue where some people playing in compatibility layers were being incorrectly flagged as cheaters, even without using any cheating software. This has resulted in bans. We sincerely apologize for this situation and want to assure you that we do not and will not ban players who play fairly and without cheating. We have identified the specific reasons for these erroneous bans and have compiled a list of the affected players. We have lifted these bans and would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” wrote Community Manager James.
If you have been banned for the same reason and still haven’t gotten your account back, NetEase recommends that you contact their customer service department, but that doesn’t mean you can get away with cheating. The Chinese company will continue to take action against them: “Our mission is to provide a fair, just and enjoyable gaming environment for all players. Therefore, preventing and identifying cheaters is one of our top priorities. We have invested significant manpower and resources to improve the speed and accuracy of our detection systems. But with any ongoing detection system, there is always room for improvement,” James added.
So don’t worry about getting banned from Steam Deck, for example. If we don’t cheat, we won’t get banned!
