MOVIE NEWS – Cosmo Jarvis, star of Shōgun, is among the rumored contenders for the next James Bond. The actor addressed these speculations during Sunday night’s Golden Globes, where Shōgun was nominated for several awards.
While celebrating Shōgun’s four Golden Globe wins with his castmates, including Best Drama Series, a reporter (via Deadline) asked Jarvis if the rumors about his potential role as 007 were true. The question seemed to catch Jarvis off guard:
“Uh, uh, I don’t know how to… I wish them all the best in their search,” Jarvis replied.
Jarvis appeared more focused on celebrating Shōgun’s Golden Globe success, which also included Best Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Best Supporting Actor for Tadanobu Asano.
His well-wishes for the James Bond series come at a time when the franchise could use some positivity. A recent Wall Street Journal article detailed tensions between Amazon Studios—now the owner of MGM, Bond’s former home—and the Broccoli family, who hold creative control over the franchise.
While Amazon aims to maximize profits with spin-offs and series, the Broccoli family insists on keeping James Bond in theaters. The last film, 2021’s No Time to Die, marked Daniel Craig’s final turn as 007, leaving the franchise in a precarious state.
What’s Next for Shōgun and Cosmo Jarvis?
Both Shōgun and Jarvis, who plays John Blackthorne, have exciting plans ahead. Originally conceived as a limited series, Shōgun is now gearing up for a second season, thanks to widespread acclaim for its first outing.
Following a record-breaking Emmy haul in September, FX Chairman John Landgraf provided an update:
“We’re moving forward. Scripts and outlines are coming in, and we’re deciding whether to shoot in the same locations as before or make some changes.”
Jarvis will return for Season 2 of Shōgun and is also set to star alongside Robert De Niro in Alto Knights. The film explores the rivalry between mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello—both played by De Niro—who dominated New York’s organized crime scene in the 1950s and ’60s.
Jarvis portrays Vincent Gigante, the eccentric mobster nicknamed “The Oddfather,” known for wandering Greenwich Village in a bathrobe while muttering to himself. Directed by Barry Levinson, Alto Knights also features Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci and is slated for release on March 21.
