MOVIE NEWS – Sony made four announcements, and two of them were pretty short, so it’s better to summarize everything in one place.
PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures have announced that a film adaptation of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is in the very early stages of development. PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures have also announced that a film adaptation of Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers is also in the works and in production. No further details were given.
Aniplex has announced that an anime adaptation of the Sucker Punch game Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be released on Crunchyroll in 2027. Takanobu Mizuno, who directed The Duel, the first episode of Star Wars: Visions, will direct this time around with the help of studio Kamikaze Douga. Gen Urobuchi (Nitro Plus) is behind the story. The anime is being produced in collaboration with Aniplex, with Sony Music as the music/soundtrack partner. Together, they aim to bring the series’ traditional samurai aesthetic to life with cinematic storytelling and stunning visuals.
“This project is a testament to the creative synergy within the Sony family, combining the expertise of PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions, the creative team of Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex, the iconic global artist roster of Sony Music, and the fan-focused global marketing and distribution footprint of Crunchyroll. The Ghost of Tsushima anime will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that is bold and groundbreaking,” said Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll. “Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties through several successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first-ever anime adaptation. Music plays such a key role in the overall viewing experience and we are thrilled to be working with our Sony partners to develop compelling content for fans around the world,” said Tom Mackay, President of Premium Content at Sony Music Entertainment.
