MOVIE NEWS – In a dramatic interview, Mel Gibson reflected on the loss of his home while sharing controversial views on abortion and his movie Apocalypto. The actor, appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast, voiced his concerns about the state of modern civilization and what he referred to as the modern forms of human sacrifice. As flames engulfed his Los Angeles home, Gibson delivered deeply emotional remarks.
“I was on Rogan’s podcast… and I felt uneasy during our conversation because I knew my neighborhood was on fire. I thought to myself, is my house still standing? But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t,” Gibson told Elizabeth Vargas on the conservative NewsNation network on January 9, 2025. The actor had just returned to Los Angeles after spending three hours at Joe Rogan’s Austin, Texas compound recording an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.
“It’s obviously devastating. It’s an emotional thing […] I had so much stuff there, and now it’s like I’ve been freed of the burden of my belongings, as everything has turned to ashes,” Gibson explained. “There were so many personal items that I’ll never be able to replace.”
Emotional Outbursts and Surprising Comparisons
While his Los Angeles home was being consumed by flames, Gibson delved into deeply personal topics during his podcast appearance. He sharply criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Anthony Fauci, former public health advisor to Donald Trump. He also expressed his enthusiasm for alternative medicine, crediting Ivermectin and a “hydrochloride something” for curing three of his friends of cancer. Furthermore, Gibson opined that “everything is falling apart, civilization is crumbling,” blaming it on “environmental issues and human sacrifice.”
Abortion as Modern-Day Human Sacrifice?
Gibson, a self-proclaimed devout Catholic, appeared to be alluding to abortion. While discussing his polarizing yet bold 2006 film Apocalypto, Gibson compared the portrayal of the Mayan civilization in the film to the current state of society.
“What I was trying to show was our time and the civilization we live in now, how close we are to collapse, and what causes that collapse. You know, environmental problems, human sacrifice. And yes, we do that. We really do,” Gibson stated.
Rogan either sought to reframe Gibson’s remarks or failed to align with his perspective, replying, “Sort of. We just disguise it. When medications are killing people, yet they’re still prescribed for money—it’s a kind of sacrifice.” Gibson, however, persisted in his explanation.
“It’s chaos. The human sacrifice element is alive and thriving in our society,” Gibson asserted.
The pair found common ground when discussing COVID-19 and substances like Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, and Methylene Blue—topics fraught with controversy. “I have three friends who were diagnosed with stage-four cancer,” Gibson shared. “All three of them are completely cancer-free now. They had some serious issues, but they took certain treatments you’ve probably heard of. Ivermectin, for example.”
Gibson’s Perspective on Loss
The Rogan/Gibson podcast episode amassed nearly two million views on YouTube within just 13 hours, drawing an outpouring of positive comments. You can watch the entire interview on YouTube here, and Gibson’s NewsNation interview here.
Regardless of opinions about Mel Gibson, many are relieved that he and his family are safe. Reflecting on the loss of one of his homes and many possessions, the Flight Risk director thoughtfully remarked: “These are just things. The good news is that my loved ones are safe, happy, and healthy, and that’s all that truly matters.”
