Ubisoft Postpones Release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows Again!

First it postponed Assassin’s Creed, set in feudal Japan, from November to February, and now the French publisher has resorted to another postponement.

This does not bode well for the game and for Ubisoft, as the publisher’s financial situation is not so good, and we have already heard that Tencent is planning to take over, but that would mean changing the management, which Ubisoft does not want to hear about. The delay that has pushed the game from February 14th to March 20th (which will also be released on Amazon Luna…) is therefore a month long, and with this feedback, Ubisoft Québec wants to make changes.

Yves Guilllemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, explained the delay: “We have made good progress with the strategy and execution review we launched several months ago and are confident that it will position Ubisoft for a stronger future. We have taken decisive steps to reshape the Group to deliver a best-in-class player experience, improve operational efficiency and maximize value creation. We have also recently appointed leading advisors and are actively exploring various strategic and capital options to unlock the full value potential of our assets.

We believe there are several potential avenues to unlock the value of Ubisoft’s assets and franchises. In addition, we are all behind our teams’ efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed opus in the franchise, and have made the decision to dedicate an additional month of development to Shadows in order to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months, which will allow us to fully realize the game’s potential and end the year on a strong note,” Guillemot wrote.

Marc-Alexis Cote, producer in charge of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, said: “Dear players, we would like to thank our incredible fans and dedicated teams for their unwavering support since our announcement in September to further refine and polish Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Since November, we’ve been thrilled to share our progress through gameplay overviews, and the overwhelming excitement has truly inspired us. Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve made remarkable progress, we feel that a few more weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience. As a result, the new release date is March 20, 2025. We remain committed to delivering a high quality, immersive experience, fueled by an ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams. We know you’re eager to learn more about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and we’re excited to share that more updates will be coming soon!”

The new release date is March 20th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), Mac (iOS/iPadOS; App Store) and Amazon Luna.
