MOZI HÍREK – Los Angeles is grappling with one of the largest wildfires in its history. Reports indicate that the inferno has claimed at least 11 lives, forced over 150,000 residents to evacuate, and destroyed or severely damaged nearly 12,000 buildings. Among those affected are several Hollywood stars, including Mel Gibson, who lost his Malibu home to the flames.
The 69-year-old actor-director was in Austin for a podcast appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, where he spoke about the sequel to The Passion. During the recording, Gibson said he couldn’t shake the worry about the safety of his home. “I kept thinking, ‘Is my house even still standing?’” he recalled. Upon returning to Malibu, he discovered his house had been reduced to ashes. “Well, at least I don’t have to stress over those plumbing problems anymore,” he quipped, attempting to find humor in the tragedy.
Despite losing his home, Gibson shared a surprising piece of good news: his family’s chickens survived the fire unscathed. “It’s a miracle. They’re safe and sound. We’ve been giving them food and water, and they’re happily laying eggs,” he said. “They didn’t end up as roasted chicken,” the actor joked. Gibson, who had lived in his Malibu residence for 15 years, noted that many of his neighbors also lost their homes to the wildfire.
The destruction caused by the fire has disrupted the entertainment industry significantly. Several major film and sporting events have been postponed, production schedules have been halted, and even the Oscar nomination process has been delayed. In response, entertainment giants like Disney and Paramount have pledged millions of dollars for recovery efforts. Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis has personally donated $1 million to assist those affected by the disaster.
