Nintendo Switch 2: 360° Render of the Upcoming Handheld Device! [VIDEO]

NINTENDO NEWS – It’s funny when so much information is leaked about a platform that hasn’t been officially unveiled yet.

OnLeaks, which has previously released authentic and accurate renders of various hardware before the official unveiling, has done so again, producing new renders of the Nintendo Switch 2 at the request of 91mobiles. The video embedded below gives a better look at the platform, the U-shaped stand and the new Joy-Con controllers. The hardware looks quite nice, but let’s not forget that it’s a bigger and probably heavier device than the Nintendo Switch OLED.

And then we have to report a screenshot taken by a GameStop employee. It shows an internal list of upcoming product announcements. The image that appeared on Reddit also shows a Joy-Con charging handle for the Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, indeed, but if we investigate further, we find out that the console uses Samsung’s microSD Express format. According to the internal SKU list, the Switch 2 microSD cards are 256 or 512 gigabytes for $50 and $85 respectively. They’re not cheap, but they’re not worse than the PlayStation Vita’s memory cards were over a decade ago.

Hangu Sohn, vice president of the Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics, said at the time: “With our two new microSD cards, Samsung has provided effective solutions to meet the growing demands of mobile computing and on-device AI. Despite their tiny size, these memory cards deliver powerful SSD-like performance and capacity to help users get more out of demanding current and future applications.”

Samsung microSD Express cards can achieve sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s. That’s 1.4 times faster than SATA SSDs (typically 560MB/s) and more than four times faster than traditional UHS-1 memory cards (200MB/s). Games now require SSDs not only on consoles, but also on PCs due to the high data flow requirements of large virtual worlds. Even though the Switch 2 is technically behind, the platform’s storage needed to be fast enough to support the many ports.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced by the end of March.
