Twitter and Bluesky Are Capitalizing on TikTok’s Uncertain Future [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – While the Chinese company’s ByteDance platform is currently available (again) in the US, the situation could change and competitors are trying to prepare for it.

We’ve covered the TikTok kerfuffle extensively over the past few weeks, so we won’t summarize what happened this time. But the bottom line is that what’s bad for the Chinese platform could be good for its competitors. These include Bluesky and Twitter: both platforms have launched new video feeds that users can scroll through to watch vertical videos. So both social networks are trying to take advantage of the uncertainty, expand their video ecosystem, and meet user demand for short video content.

New tabs or feeds have been added to both BlueSky and Twitter, but BlueSky has gone a step further by releasing its own video editor to replace CapCut (ByteDance’s video editing application). This is Edits. Bluesky has taken a very aggressive approach to positioning itself in the video content space by creating a separate, customizable feed for videos, mimicking the experience of TikTok, where you can spin videos by swiping up or down on your smartphone.

But what’s new is that you can also select videos from selected hashtags and use them to create separate, targeted feeds. Bluesky explained this in the announcement post, saying that just like any other feed, you can choose to pin something to the top or not, as the key to customizing Bluesky is in your hands. Users can also see a timeline of popular, trending videos from the platform. Mivell Bluesky currently does not allow videos longer than 60 seconds, it is really for short videos.

The only question in the story is what will be the final fate of TikTok. Time will tell us the answer.
