MOVIE NEWS – SkyShowtime has unveiled the poignant official trailer for the highly anticipated exclusive series Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, starring Oscar and Golden Globe winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man, The Staircase) and Catherine McCormack (Slow Horses, Temple, Lucan).
On December 21, 1988, 259 passengers and crew lost their lives when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie 38 minutes after takeoff, and 11 more residents died when the plane crashed into the quiet Scottish town.
Following the disaster and the death of his daughter Flora, Dr. Expert Jim Swire (Colin Firth) is appointed to be the spokesperson for the families of victims in the UK, who are demanding the truth and justice.
Jim embarks on a harrowing journey across continents and divided political battlefields that not only threatens his mental stability, his family, and his life but also completely undermines his faith in justice. As the truth becomes increasingly shaky ground beneath his feet, Jim’s view of the world is forever changed.
Exploring the events of the disaster and its aftermath, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth tells the story from the perspective of a man, husband, and father who risks everything for his daughter’s memory and his relentless pursuit of truth and justice.
The five-part series is produced by Carnival Films and Sky Studios, part of Universal International Studios. The series is executive written by acclaimed Scottish playwright David Harrower (Blackbird, Knives in Hens). Maryam Hamidi (Vigil) guest-wrote one episode. The series is executive produced by BAFTA Award-winning Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, The Winter King). One episode was directed by Jim Loach (Save Me). The series is executive produced by Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant for Carnival Films. Sam Hoyle is executive-produced by Sky Studios. Other executive producers include David Harrower, Otto Bathurst, Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan and Oskar Slingerland.
The series is based on the book The Lockerbie: A Father’s Search for Justice by Jim Swire and Peter Biddulph and uses other sources.
