Xbox boss Phil Spencer reaffirms that Microsoft will continue to release its first-party games on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. “I want people to enjoy the games we create and the services we offer on as many devices as possible,” Spencer said.
Microsoft’s future in gaming involves a broader strategy, including the release of its exclusive titles on platforms like Nintendo Switch and Steam, alongside PlayStation.
Redefining Xbox’s Strategy
Xbox is reshaping its future with a more inclusive vision by embracing cross-platform releases. As Microsoft explores ways to grow its ecosystem and reach gamers worldwide, the company is doubling down on its multiplatform approach. This strategy includes bringing first-party titles from Xbox Game Studios, Activision Blizzard, and Bethesda to competing platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
Speaking on Gamertag Radio, Spencer discussed Microsoft’s evolving gaming strategy. One key topic was the decision to expand Xbox games onto other closed platforms. “I want everyone to be able to play Xbox games, and that means more of our titles coming to more platforms—not just PlayStation,” Spencer said around the 8:15 mark.
“We love working with Nintendo and enjoy our collaboration with Valve on Steam, and we’ll keep doing that. We’ve realized it’s all about the games and ensuring they are the best they can be,” he explained. While emphasizing the premium experience of Xbox hardware, Spencer noted that “our games will appear on more platforms for sure.”
A Unique Strategy in the Industry
Unlike Nintendo and PlayStation, Spencer points out that no other major gaming company adopts the same open strategy as Xbox. While closed ecosystems remain significant for many players, Xbox aims to be more accessible, leveraging Cloud Gaming as a vital element of its future.
“From listening to our teams, it’s clear everyone wants to reach as many players as possible. Frankly, there aren’t many platforms trying to connect with people across so many screens. We want players to experience Xbox on as many screens as they can,” Spencer explained.
