Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has reportedly struck a deal with Saudi Games Group to expand the content of the previous installment in the franchise.
While we’re less than two months away from the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan (unless the French publisher delays it for a third time…), rumors suggest that fans of the franchise can expect something different in 2025, and that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the previous episode, could receive DLC more than a year after its release. This is a bit of a puzzling strategy, as it’s usually Ubisoft’s practice to release a game, expand it with DLC for 1-2 years, and then focus on the next episode. This rumor suggests the opposite!
This rumor was reported by the French publication Les Echos, based on information from a well-known Assassin’s Creed leaker, j0nathan. According to him, Guillemot visited Saudi Arabia and it was after his visit that this became a topic of discussion within Ubisoft. The company has signed a deal with Savvy Games, which will contribute a lot to the project. The interesting thing is that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was originally planned as a DLC and would have continued the story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that preceded it, but Ubisoft ended up making it a standalone game and that’s how it was released in October 2023.
There’s a reason why Assassin’s Creed Mirage is getting DLC now, because Assassin’s Creed Odyssey also got a crossover three years after its release, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla had already been released. So Ubisoft is trying to strengthen its catalog of older games, because when a franchise gets the latest installment, the one before it can technically be placed there. The French often boast about how well their older titles sell, but let’s not forget that this is a company that has been around for decades…
No official announcement has been made regarding the DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Will Savvy Games Group take a larger stake in the publisher? If so, what does Tencent have to say about it?
