Moon Studios may be working on a third Ori, but who knows what the Austrian studio is really working on.
Thomas Mahler, founder of Moon Studios (and director of three of the studio’s games), hinted on Discord what might be in the works after the release of the team’s third game. No Rest for the Wicked is in the works, and they’ve set up a Discord server for it. The game, which will be an action RPG, will be published by Private Division for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. It has been available for early access on PC since April last year.
Mahler wrote on Discord (somewhat tongue-in-cheek, of course), referring to a Twitter promise that if No Rest for the Wicked sells 10 million copies, Moon Studios will reveal the title of Ori 3. Whether he meant it as a joke or not, this is not something developers usually joke about. He then added that the biggest problem with the game would be the story if it were to come to fruition. He thinks that it could easily be lifted from Ori and the Will of the Wisps, taking all the mechanics from the second part that came out in 2020 and expanding on them.
He added that this would also require very good path planners. Also, he’s not sure if he could find another studio that would be able to continue the Ori story (so wouldn’t they do it in-house?). He thinks it would be a good idea for Moon Studios and Team Cherry to work together. (They’re the developers of Hollow Knight.) Mahler says that there might be an Ori 3 in the works somewhere, but he doesn’t know about it because no one has contacted him about it, and it would be strange if that were the case. No Rest for the Wicked is Mahler’s most important project right now, but he added that he had a call with Microsoft a few days ago, so he’s being patient. He says that Moon Studios will be able to do a lot of things, but right now they’re focusing on other things to perfect.
All this is not official!
