Metal Gear Solid: Is a Remake of the Original in Development?

An insider has shared an interesting image on social media, but is it worth thinking about, or did he just post the screenshot to pass the time?

On Bluesky, Windows Central editor Jez Corden posted an image showing Metal Gear Solid. He didn’t include any commentary, and the image’s caption simply reads “Metal Gear Solid 1, elevator ambush scene”. How can it be realistic that Konami would revive the first Metal Gear Solid after the third Metal Gear Solid?

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is scheduled for release sometime this year. It’s a remake of the third game, and we’ve been hearing (and seeing) about it officially for quite some time. Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection Vol. 2 could follow in 2026, and with number 1, the Japanese publisher has already confirmed plans for a sequel. Of course, it remains to be seen what the collection will contain besides the PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Perhaps Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, also for the PSP, or perhaps Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, made with the help of PlatinumGames, could be part of the package.

After that, a Metal Gear Solid remake would make sense. Let’s say it comes out in 2028. That would be enough time for Konami to make another remake after the MGS3 remake. The original MGS isn’t a huge game, and it could go in a direction similar to the surprise release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. If Konami can weave together elements of Metal Gear Solid, Integral, and the GameCube remake The Twin Snakes, all served up with modern graphics, it would be great for Metal Gear Solid’s 30th anniversary.

However, we have to emphasize that this is not official yet, as we don’t know what Konami is working on.
