We’ve learned who’s working on the new Gears of War installment alongside Microsoft’s in-house studio The Coalition, and since this particular team hasn’t been doing too well lately, they’re going to need E-Day…
The Gears of War franchise (which is not just Gears like Gears 5…) is now in the hands of The Coalition. They will also be the developers of Gears of War: E-Day, but not alone this time, as they will have a returning team at their side. The studio in question was the development partner on the original Gears of War trilogy and then became the lead developer on Gears of War: Judgment, so they know the IP.
It’s People Can Fly, who we haven’t heard much positive news from lately. There is a canceled project (Project Dagger), there is a game that could be called a failure (Outriders), and there are layoffs (30 people in early 2024, 120 more in December). So they need something bigger to do, and Microsoft trying to bring them in is not a bad idea (if Epic Games would rather do Fortnite and the Epic Games Store…).
“Returning to work on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build on the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love. We are deeply grateful for the trust and support of our partners on this journey,” People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciehowski said in a press release. Coalition studio head Mike Crump added, “Gears of War: E-Day is not just our next big game; it’s a return to what makes Gears of War games special and authentic. We’re thrilled to be working with the talented folks at People Can Fly, who have been a part of our franchise’s legacy for so long. Guillaume Barry, Development Director at People Can Fly, said, “Our team at People Can Fly, made up of dedicated Gears of War fans, is putting everything we have into creating an experience that will exceed expectations. While we’re not ready to share more, we look forward to the day when we can show off all the exciting things we’ve been working on.
Gears of War: E-Day is coming to the Xbox family and PC. A release date has not been announced.
