One team had already laid off more than 100 people last May, while another closed down completely, with 185 people losing their jobs.
Phoenix Labs, the developers of Dauntless (a live service game) and Fae Farm, announced that most of the studio has been laid off. They didn’t give an exact number, but the remaining employees are tasked with finding a way out of the effects on Dauntless and Fae Farm, but it sounds like Phoenix Labs is facing game over…
“Today is another difficult day for Phoenix Labs. We have made the difficult decision to part ways with the majority of the studio as part of unfortunate but necessary changes to our operations. We recognize and deeply appreciate the contributions of each individual affected. Their talent, dedication, and creativity have left an indelible mark on our company and our games. We will share more details about what this means for Dauntless and Fae Farm in the coming weeks. For now, our focus is on supporting those affected by this transition. To our industry colleagues, we encourage you to reach out to these exceptional individuals – they are some of the best in the business,” Phoenix Labs’ statement reads.
Ubisoft has announced that it will be closing its studio in Leamington, UK. As a result, 185 people will lose their jobs, 100 of whom work in the country. There will also be redundancies at the company’s studios in Düsseldorf, Stockholm and Newcastle. “As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs to ensure the long-term stability of Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructuring at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections, as well as the permanent closure of the Ubisoft Leamington site. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition,” said a Ubisoft spokesperson in a statement to Eurogamer.
The two delays of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the cancellation of XDefiant, the failure of Star Wars Outlaws have all cost Ubisoft.
