Konami’s Goldmine: Silent Hill 2 Remake and Metal Gear Drive Huge Profits

Konami is celebrating record-breaking revenue and profits, thanks largely to Silent Hill 2 Remake, though the Metal Gear series has also played a role. Silent Hill 2 Remake has surpassed 2 million copies sold, while the Metal Gear Solid franchise has moved another 300,000 units in the last three months.

Konami is one of the biggest names in gaming history, and after years of uncertainty, the company has made a strong comeback with two of its most beloved franchises: Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. Not long ago, it seemed unlikely that Konami would revisit these legendary series, let alone develop full-fledged remakes like Silent Hill 2 Remake and Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake. Yet here we are—the survival horror revival has been a smash hit, players are thrilled, and Konami is reaping the financial rewards.

The company has just released its financial results for the first nine months of the current fiscal year, and the numbers speak for themselves. From October to December, Konami posted record-breaking digital revenue, largely driven by Silent Hill 2 Remake, which has now sold over 2 million copies. The company highlighted the success of the Bloober Team-developed horror game but also acknowledged the performance of other key titles.

Konami’s sports division is thriving as well, with eFootball surpassing an impressive 800 million downloads across all platforms. Meanwhile, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has seen another 300,000 copies sold in the last quarter, bringing its lifetime sales to 62.4 million units. Looking ahead, Konami has several high-profile releases lined up that are expected to push profits even higher.

One such title is Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection, launching on Steam and Switch on February 27, a compilation featuring 14 classic Yu-Gi-Oh! games. Additionally, Suikoden I & II Remaster is on the way, alongside Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, which remains a top priority for the company. Beyond that, Konami is actively developing two new Silent Hill projects, ensuring the franchise continues to grow. Thanks to these successes, Konami’s net profit between April and December 2024 increased by 41.8% compared to the same period last year.
