MOVIE NEWS – It is a long tradition that the events of the Jurassic Park (World) films take place on some tropical island, which can be justified from both a logical and dramaturgical point of view. The resurrected dinosaurs are always kept away from people, in an untouched natural environment, in a kind of well-protected safari park. From the point of view of the storyline, it is important that the chaos breaks out in some well-defined area, and not, say, the raptors racing along the seemingly endless Texas highway, because that would be a road movie. It would not contradict everything if the T-Rex could visit San Diego through no fault of its own to rearrange the cityscape a bit, as happened in The Lost World.
The films so far have mostly featured Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, these fictional exotic islands not far from the coast of Costa Rica. That’s why fans are so interested in whether Jurassic World: Rebirth will break with tradition or return to familiar locations. The trailer reveals that Scarlett Johansson and her select team will once again head to the jungle, but the question is where.
The movie fan site FlickSided is almost engaging in Kremlinological discussions about the solution. (Not for boomers: Kremlinology was once the science when experts tried to decipher the political direction of one-sixth of the world from the half-spoken words of Soviet party leaders and their visible positions on the grandstand on November 7.)
The site’s editors started from the trailer, where telling statements are made. One of the characters mentions the Barbados region because “the government’s hand doesn’t reach there.” In other words, it’s quite far away. Someone else jokingly says, “No one would be crazy enough to go where we’re going.” That means it’s a very dangerous place. Johansson’s character, however, suggests that they’re heading to the original Jurassic Park research base. It could be Isla Sorna. FlickSided ultimately comes to the diplomatic conclusion that it doesn’t matter where Jurassic World: Rebirth takes place, as long as it has a lot of dinosaurs.
