Warhorse Studios’ game is not only soaring in sales, but also in performance on PlayStation 5 Pro.
On the ResetEra forums, a developer revealed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 uses version 9.6 of the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler. So Sony is doing a lot of development on PSSR, but it turns out that this is not the latest version. So the Czech developers have done a great job anyway, as the same person shared some interesting thoughts about the scaler available on the PlayStation 5 mid-generation update a few days earlier.
According to him, older games using Unreal Engine 4 may not be able to support a newer version of PSSR than the initial release. UE4 only supports the original PSSR by default, and Epic Games no longer officially updates this engine, and developers will have to port back code snippets from Unreal Engine 5 to use newer software development kits (SDKs) to use a newer version of PSSR. For this reason, there is no chance for more games to support PSSR because backporting Unreal Engine 5 code takes time and not everyone has the time to do it.

Warhorse has confirmed on Twitter that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has managed to match Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in sales in two weeks in millions. 2 million is not bad for the time (and it reached the first million in one day, although that included pre-orders), and of that, according to Steam’s figures, 1.46-1.72 million can be attributed to PC. In terms of concurrent players, it has reached over 256,000, which has allowed it to overtake Team Fortress 2 in the top 50. Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, has nothing but praise for the studio:
“I’m just so happy and pleased with Warhorse and what they’ve done. They joined Embracer in 2019, they had their vision to create a sequel to a fantastic game and we allowed them to realize their vision that they wanted to do and gave them more time and freedom to really create a masterpiece. The sales are exceeding our expectations and even my slightly higher expectations, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is actually achieving that, so I think it’s a well done. I’m really happy about it. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and the first one for that matter, will continue to generate substantial revenue for us for many years to come,” Wingefors said during Embracer’s quarterly financial report.
Given that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will continue to receive new content (some of it paid) until the end of the year, perhaps its success is well deserved.
