MOVIE NEWS – Uwe Boll refuses to back down despite threats from Warner Bros. His next film is titled The Dark Knight, starring an actor who almost became Batman. This action-packed revenge thriller is filled with gunfights, but DC Comics and the film studio have already contacted Boll to demand a title change.
As expected, Warner Bros. is looking to block the controversial filmmaker Uwe Boll from using the title The Dark Knight for his new movie, which directly matches Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Although the film has no connection to Gotham’s masked vigilante, meaning it wouldn’t cause confusion, the Canada-based German director revealed that DC Comics and Warner Bros. have already reached out, urging him to reconsider. For now, Boll has no intention of backing down.
“DC and Warner already called me and said I couldn’t use the title. I get it. But I told them, ‘Hey, remember that Rampage movie you did with The Rock? You used my title.’ They called me for permission, and I let them use it for free. The least they could do is show some gratitude and say, ‘It’s not a Batman movie, go ahead and use the title.’”
Given that Warner Bros. once sued Valencia CF over a bat-shaped logo, it’s doubtful this explanation will suffice. A team of lawyers is surely preparing to escalate legal pressure on Uwe Boll.
According to Boll, his film has absolutely nothing to do with Nolan’s blockbuster or its protagonist. Instead, it’s a John Wick-style revenge thriller, and hopefully, it will be more successful than Boll’s usual cinematic disasters. His Rampage movies remain among the few exceptions where he didn’t completely miss the mark.
Armie Hammer: The Almost-Batman of the 2000s
In The Dark Knight, the lead role is played by none other than Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), who was essentially exiled from Hollywood for years following a highly publicized “cannibalism” scandal. Coincidentally, Hammer was once very close to portraying Batman in Justice League Mortal, a superhero ensemble film that was supposed to be directed by George Miller but was ultimately scrapped by Warner Bros. in the 2000s.
