Exodus Aims to Surpass Baldur’s Gate 3, but You’ll Have to Wait a While

It’s being hyped as the next big thing in RPGs, with its creators claiming it could even outshine Baldur’s Gate 3. But don’t hold your breath—Hasbro says that Exodus, its biggest game project yet, won’t launch before 2026.

Among the most ambitious upcoming RPGs, Exodus stands out as a sci-fi epic that aims to leave a lasting impression. Developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by ex-BioWare veterans and based on a Dungeons & Dragons-related license, the game promises a deep, immersive universe—but it’s still a long way from release.

Announced during The Game Awards 2023, the title instantly captured attention with its sci-fi setting, RPG elements, and involvement of Mass Effect developers. One of its major draws is the inclusion of actor Matthew McConaughey, who plays a key character in the story.

Exodus isn’t just aiming to be another sci-fi RPG; it wants to push the boundaries of the genre. According to Archetype, players will be able to manipulate space-time elements within the game world, making decisions that impact future generations and even allowing for time travel. All of this will be combined with a strong narrative and shooter-style action sequences to create unforgettable moments.

Don’t Expect It in 2025—But Is the Wait Worth It?

Hasbro, the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, has confirmed in its latest financial report that the scale of the project means development will be both complex and lengthy. According to Chris Cocks, Hasbro’s CEO, the game won’t launch until 2026 at the earliest, with no exact release date in sight.

The executive emphasized that Exodus is the company’s “first major gaming project” and that they’ve been investing in the video game industry for over seven years. During that time, Hasbro has backed successful titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, but they believe this new RPG will be an even bigger milestone for their gaming division.

Slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Exodus could end up launching around the same time as the next Mass Effect, creating an interesting showdown between two massive sci-fi RPGs. The wait may be long, but Archetype Entertainment’s upcoming title could become one of the genre’s biggest highlights in the coming years.
