MOVIE NEWS – Kevin Bacon takes on a supernatural bounty-hunting gig in his latest horror-action series, The Bondsman, set to premiere on Prime Video on April 3. The Blumhouse Television-produced show sees Bacon playing a resurrected hunter tracking down rogue demons while searching for his redemption.
Having built a legacy in horror with films like Friday the 13th, Hollow Man, Stir of Echoes, and the upcoming Maxxxine, Kevin Bacon is no stranger to the genre. However, his latest project blends gory action with a surprising dose of dark humor. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor shared his thoughts on the series:
“It’s got a lot of violence, blood, and scares, but there’s also an element of self-awareness. It’s often funny, and at the heart of it, there’s a lot of emotion.”
In The Bondsman, Bacon plays Hub Halloran, a man living on a rural farm with his mother, Kitty (Beth Grant), after parting ways with his wife, musician Maryanne (Jennifer Nettles). But his world is upended when he’s brutally murdered in the opening scene. His shady past catches up to him in the afterlife, as Hell’s management team recruits him to hunt down demonic fugitives. Completing his task might just give him a shot at saving his own soul. Bacon explains:
“He refuses to believe he belongs in Hell. He’s convinced it’s some kind of clerical error, like, ‘There must be a mistake, a glitch in the system.’ But deep down, he knows the truth.”
Kevin Bacon on Why Action Scenes Aren’t the Toughest Part
Though The Bondsman features plenty of physical sequences, Bacon insists that fight choreography wasn’t the biggest challenge. Instead, he found the in-between moments to be the most demanding. He elaborates:
“I love high-stakes moments. But if you break it down, horror movies don’t give actors much time to be happy or relaxed. Out of a 75-minute runtime, you spend nearly all of it portraying some mix of terror, anxiety, grief, or anger. As an actor, the real challenge is keeping it interesting and making sure the audience doesn’t think, ‘Didn’t he just make that exact face 10 minutes ago?’”
With his long-standing Hollywood career, Bacon is sure to attract a strong audience for The Bondsman when it lands on Prime Video. The show may also appeal to fans still holding out hope for Keanu Reeves to reprise his role as DC’s John Constantine. With its blend of supernatural horror, redemption arcs, and demon-hunting, The Bondsman might just fill the void in the meantime.
