MOVIE NEWS – Hideo Kojima, the legendary game designer known for sharing his thoughts on films much like Stephen King, has once again sparked controversy on social media. This time, his confusion over Captain America: Brave New World didn’t sit well with MCU fans, who quickly called him out for his lack of knowledge about recent Marvel storylines.
With nearly two decades of interconnected storytelling, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a complex web of narratives spanning movies and TV series. Anyone who hasn’t kept up with the latest Disney+ offerings, such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, might struggle to follow the ever-evolving superhero hierarchy. Kojima, it seems, is among those feeling lost. After watching Captain America: Brave New World in IMAX, he shared his thoughts online, revealing his uncertainty about how Sam Wilson officially became Captain America. He wrote:
“I watched ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ in IMAX. I vaguely remember Sam getting the shield in ‘Endgame,’ but when did he officially become Cap? Is it because I haven’t seen ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’? And what’s this about the Avengers being reorganized? I’m also getting it mixed up with the ‘Thunderbolts’ trailer.”
With Thunderbolts set to hit theaters in May, it’s not entirely surprising that someone who hasn’t followed every MCU entry might mix up key details.

MCU Fans Quickly Point Out the Flaws in Kojima’s Comments
Film reviews can be helpful for undecided viewers—if the critic understands the context of what they’re watching. This is why audience and critic scores often diverge so dramatically. Many Marvel fans found Kojima’s lack of MCU knowledge frustrating, making it difficult to take his opinion seriously.
Following his comments, social media users responded with a mix of disappointment and mockery. @odosamsonpeter commented, “This is exactly the problem with critics who didn’t like the movie. Most of them don’t even understand it. Some were even asking where Arishem came from, when the answers are in past movies or shows they didn’t bother to watch.” Another user, @SnowAngel9920, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Well, obviously he’s not keeping up. He should have watched ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ Or at least asked someone.”
Others were simply tired of Kojima’s ongoing film commentary. @luciferspal bluntly stated, “Kind of sick of hearing from this guy.”
Of course, Kojima still has a strong following of fans who appreciate his industry insights. He frequently shares thoughts on major blockbusters as well as hidden cinematic gems that might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps, however, it’s time for him to skip Marvel movies altogether.
