NINTENDO NEWS – “Sean”, who used to work at Nintendo’s US subsidiary, has predicted when the next generation of hardware will be available in stores.
Sean used to work in the sales and retail department of Nintendo’s US division and appeared on the Kit and Krista podcast with some of his former colleagues. According to Sean, Nintendo will definitely say at the Nintendo Direct in April that the Switch 2 will be available before the end of the summer. However, he gave a more specific timeframe than that:
“They want the system to be out before the end of the summer. I would say the beginning of the summer, the end of the school year, so the kids are talking about what they’re excited about. I think we’ll see a June launch. I’m thinking maybe mid-June or a little later than that. But definitely before the end of the summer, this thing is coming out…there’s good strategic reasons why that would be part of the consideration,” Sean said.
He also talked about what he thinks the Switch 2 pricing might be: “Retailers don’t know anything. Certainly not the price. Almost certainly not a release date other than maybe a quarter. It always makes me laugh when I see these articles like, ‘Walmart Canada says the price is going to be this’… Walmart Canada are the last people to know. They don’t have that information. There’s no way that even Target in the US would know anything…when we know the launch date, that’s probably when the retailers will know the launch date. Maybe a week or two in advance. I would imagine the retailers will find out maybe on March 27th – a couple of days before the Nintendo Direct,” Sean added.
Nintendo finally confirmed the Switch 2 in January, but until then the name had only been rumored. The Japanese company has confirmed that a Nintendo Direct will be held on April 2, focusing exclusively on the Switch 2 and its games line-up. The company is trying to use prices that the current audience can afford.
