MOVIE NEWS – Despite being left out of Netflix’s 2025 lineup of films and shows, Guy Ritchie’s award-winning spin-off of The Gentlemen is officially returning for a second season. Boasting strong scores from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, the series proved to be a worthy follow-up to the hit film. Starring James Bond favorite Theo James, the first season delivered all the style and chaos fans expected—but things won’t be quite as “fun” this time around.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Theo James, star of The Monkey, spoke about the highly anticipated second season of The Gentlemen. He confirmed that filming is set to begin this spring while teasing a significant tonal shift for the show. The first season was a stylish, fast-paced, and over-the-top continuation of the original movie, but now Ritchie is taking things in a darker direction. According to James, Season 2 will be “bigger and darker”, as the goal is to keep the series evolving and unpredictable.
“We start shooting Season 2 of The Gentlemen this spring, and it’s going to be bigger and darker than the first. Both I and [creator] Guy Ritchie felt it was crucial to push the show forward and keep it fresh. As entertaining as the first season was, doing the exact same thing again just wouldn’t be as exciting.”
If production wraps up by early summer, there’s a chance The Gentlemen could hit Netflix before the year is out. However, fans should probably expect an early 2026 release instead. Ritchie isn’t one to slow down, and with his Indiana Jones-style adventure film Fountain of Youth starring John Krasinski recently completed, he’s already moving on to his next project—an action thriller titled In the Grey featuring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González.
The Gentlemen Season 2: Cast, Crew & Plot Details
It didn’t take long for Netflix to greenlight a second season of The Gentlemen following its strong debut. That decision isn’t surprising given the show’s stylish storytelling and stacked cast. Alongside Theo James, the series stars Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, and Giancarlo Esposito, who will also appear in Captain America: Brave New World. Behind the camera, Ritchie is back to direct all eight episodes and co-write the scripts with Matthew Read (Peaky Blinders, Only God Forgives). Netflix has released an official synopsis teasing what’s next:
“The Gentlemen follows Eddie (Theo James), who unexpectedly inherits his father’s title as the Duke of Halstead after his passing. Along with the title comes a vast country estate—along with a massive underground marijuana operation controlled by the sharp and ruthless Susie (Kaya Scodelario) and her crime lord father Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone). Initially hesitant to get involved, Eddie finds himself drawn deeper into the criminal underworld, forming an uneasy alliance with Susie as they navigate the UK’s most dangerous and outlandish gangster families. By the end of the first season, Eddie solidifies his position as a co-owner of the Glass family’s empire.”
Details about Season 2’s storyline remain under wraps, but Scodelario has previously hinted at wanting the show to explore new locations: “Selfishly, I’d love them to go abroad somewhere,” she said. Once filming officially starts, fans will likely get a clearer idea of where the story is headed next.
