Ubisoft’s Response to Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Street Date Break: What You Need to Know

In a somewhat surprising move, the French publisher has reacted to the fact that the latest Assassin’s Creed installment, which has been delayed several times (!), has already been snatched up by some.

Ubisoft is aware that many people have obtained Assassin’s Creed Shadows, essentially unauthorized, before its release date in stores and have sold it on various auction sites while the game was still a month away from release. Those who somehow managed to get their hands on a copy of the game (not even the press is allowed to have it yet… the end of the embargo is a bit far away) started live streaming it. But let’s look at Ubisoft’s surprisingly cautious statement…

“We are aware that players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows before its official release. The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game. Leaks are unfortunate and can take the excitement out of the experience for players. We ask that you do not spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers. Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks! March 20th is coming soon,” Ubisoft wrote.

Details of the game were leaked earlier this month when images of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows art book were uploaded to a website in Henta. Information about the first Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC was also recently leaked, courtesy of an update on the game’s Steam page. The DLC, titled Claws of Awaji, will reportedly include a new area to explore, a new weapon type, and over 10 hours of additional content.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. Originally scheduled for release in November, the publisher first delayed the launch to February and then pushed it back again.
