Not on screen: The TV-loving Gex jumps on the screen more than once, trying to find his place in another world.
It was announced back in July 2023 that the Gex Trilogy was in the works, but since then Limited Run Games has not said anything concrete about when the three-platform collection will be released. Now we don’t have a specific release date either, but at least we have a release season from the publisher. That’s more than nothing, and hopefully this won’t be a delay like we’ve seen with other titles.
The Gex trilogy, running on the Carbon engine, will obviously have three games: Gex, Gex: Enter The Gecko, and Gex: Deep Cover Gecko. In Gex, the gecko is voiced by HBO comedian Dana Gould, which confirms that Limited Run Games is basing its North American versions on Gex, as in the UK, Leslie Phillips and Danny John-Jules were the voices of Gex (the former in the second and the latter in the third installment). Gould was the writer of the first episode at the time, and has over 300 voice-overs (of course, these would be dated today for all three episodes… but the humor varies from era to era).
In the first episode, Gex is sucked into the media dimension and must destroy TVs all over the world to escape. Featuring over 450 frames of 3D animation and hand-rendered backgrounds, the game was once a 3DO hit. Gex: Enter the Gecko promised innovative camerawork (but it was corny in this and its sequel… we’ll see), and Gould gave the gecko over 500 lines of lip-synched voice acting as he travels to several worlds in many different costumes. In the third episode, Marlice Andrada of Baywatch plays Agent Xtra, Gex has over 1000 lines of voice acting, there are new secret playable characters, and the new camera system is also explored.
The Gex Trilogy is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Nintendo Switch this summer.
