Sony’s VR headset, launched two years ago, will be significantly cheaper in all regions starting in March.
Until now, PlayStation VR was $550, €600, £530 or 74980 Japanese yen. This price has been fixed for a very long time. Sony has done something that we have not seen in this generation (yes, the PlayStation 5 has not only become cheaper, it has become MORE EXPENSIVE since its launch): it has lowered the prices. From March, the price of the headset will be 400 dollars, 450 euros, 400 pounds or 66,980 Japanese yen. So the percentage of price reduction is in double digits, which is rare.
The basic PlayStation VR2 kit (headset, Sense controllers, stereo headphones) and the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle (which includes a download voucher for the game) will also be available for the same price, so Sony certainly couldn’t have overselled the headsets they made, as usually when hardware that is rarely in the news gets cheaper, it’s to attract more customers.
This lower price will also benefit PC users! Don’t forget that last year an adapter was released to connect the PlayStation VR2 headset to your PC. However, we should add that Sony hasn’t even touched the price of the PlayStation VR2 yet, so for two years the headset has had the opening price and only during temporary promotions (usually over the Christmas period) has it been available at a cheaper price than before, which really does offer a much better look and experience than the first generation, but you need a PlayStation 5 to get it, as the headset isn’t really usable on its own.
So if you’re thinking of getting a PlayStation VR2, it’s worth waiting a little longer, as the price cut could leave you with a lot of money in your pocket.
